History

Dearborn Municipal Employees Credit Union was established in 1936, as one of the first chartered Credit Unions in Michigan. Our membership base originally consisted of City of Dearborn employees and their immediate families. Beginning in 1998 our field of membership began to expand.

That year we changed our name to Dearborn Municipal Credit Union to reflect the addition of Wayne County Retirees who have attained the age of 55 and are receiving either social security or a pension. The following year, 1999, RM Employees Credit Union was merged into our credit union. Also in 1999, we received a community charter for the eastern portion of Dearborn, which resulted in our present name, Dearborn Village Community Credit Union.

In 2002 our community charter was expanded from East Dearborn to include the entire Community of Dearborn. On September 1, 2003 members of Associated Metro Federal Credit Union partnered with DVCCU, which expanded our field of membership to include the following zip codes 48209, 48210 and 48216 in Southwest Detroit.

In June of 2006 our first branch located on Dix Road in southeast Dearborn opened allowing us to better serve our membership in East Dearborn as well as Southwest Detroit. In March 2010, our field of membership was expanded to include all individuals and entities within Wayne County, Michigan. In order to better reflect our field of membership, we have dropped the "Dearborn" and our official name is Village Community Credit Union. We are gradually transitioning our forms, plastic cards and signs to reflect this name change. Our complete name transition should be completed by January 1, 2011.
